Hairstyles

This part of the website is dedicated to one of the most important aspects of your look. Your Hair is the very thing that finishes your style and makes you feel perfect. It creates priceless head shots and helps you feel individually beautiful in your dress. Ultimately, your hair should be what you decide to have it be. It should reflect who you are. The Defining line Salon in Idaho Falls has some advice on up-coming and in style trends for the season, along with tips on how to choose the perfect salon and style for you.

Behind every great trend is a trend setter. As world renowned hairdresser extraordinaire Michael Gordon says, "I like the fact we're all now in contact, all working together towards great, creative styling that's based on the best historical styles and the work of the best stylists." As hair trends filter through our world, the most wonderful discoveries become classic shapes that are varied and personalized in millions of different ways. Wedding hair trends always have a certain element of timelessness to their look. Many of the basic silhouette shapes for wedding hairstyles require classic, tried and true structure.

Hair trends for Summer 2009- Summer 2010

Wedding hair looks this year are all hair, full and gorgeous. 2009 holds wedding hairstyle trends with delightful aspects that offer many ways to customize a look so that it is one of a kind, and truly, uniquely yours. Your wedding day gives you perfect opportunity to show off your hair at it’s best. When you are considering your bridal hair-do, remember that your wedding style should reflect you. Stop to think for a moment… what is your personality? What does your soul silently say to the world each day? What kind of Bride are you? Are you tender, sassy, organic, chic, or bold? Do you want traditions all over the place, or to go where no bride has ever dared?

This season there are fewer tiaras and headpieces, and more emphasis is put on the hair being glorious. This is great news to all of you that love big hair (ok, let’s admit it Idahoans, Texans aren’t the only ones guilty of indulging in volume.) and the great thing is, you are right in style. Let your hair be over the top for the big day! Of all the occasions in your life, your wedding day is often the best chance of your life to have breathtakingly beautiful hair. So, for those of you who have flashbacks of sponge rollers gone bad when you think about volume in your hair, be encouraged, simple or short hair can still make a big impression on your wedding day by being perfectly embellished with trinkets, jewelry, or accessories. Your partings, the shape, and the way the whole style works together is what separates the bland and the beautiful.

How to choose a Salon

When you are choosing a hairdresser for your wedding style it is important to make sure that the salon is skilled in both timeless technique and current style trend of the season.  If you don’t do your homework and pick a shop that you can trust, you may end up disappointed, or as Forest would say “like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” To find a salon that fits your needs visit a few different locations, do searches online, ask around to find out who your friends recommend. Keep in mind that your hairdresser who specializes in color or cutting may or may not be the right one for your wedding hair. Once you find a place that you like, Interview them, look at the style of the salon and consider the way they treat you. Are they tidy and organized? A good shop will call you and your attendants the day before the wedding to confirm all of the details. They will be helpful in organizing your wedding party’s appointments to be strategically positioned . Ask questions to get an idea of how much support they will be. (They will know to recommend things like the flower girl’s appointments as one of the last so that her hair has less time for wear and tear.) A good way to get an idea of how skilled a salon’s artists are with styling is to ask them if they do any work with photographers, if they have ever been published, or if they have ever done any editorial work. Chances are, if they are that involved in the industry, and they regularly have their work photographed, they know how to style hair to look polished and balanced, and will work organized and timely. (This assures that you will not be late for your own wedding!)

Wedding hair concept

“Romantic Recycling”

What an adorably precious wedding trend! This year invites you to evoke a sense of timeless nostalgia through hair accessories. The following wedding updo photo shoot was inspired by this trend. (All of the trinkets you see in the hair were generously borrowed from “Lilie’s selected Consignments” in Downtown Idaho Falls. Please ask them about the vintage collection from The Defining Line’s photo shoot.) Being a part of this accessory trend gives new life and meaning to the contents of jewelry boxes everywhere. Vintage trinkets can be easily added to modern styles to give your hair some glamorous charisma. Mixing resurrected heirloom treasures into sharp styles of today can be just the ticket for inspiration and a signature style. Coming from someone who recently inherited great Auntie’s old jewelry collection, this seems to be a brilliant combination of inspiring mediums. Aunt Jackie lived in California during the flirty fashions of the 20s, and through Old-Hollywood’s glamour days. As I fingered through vintage belt buckles, brooches, sparkles, and varied sizes of everything you could imagine, I realized that these pieces told her life story, and they saw it all. Being a hairdresser and salon owner, I naturally began winding little accessories from Aunt Jackie into my hair, it felt romantic. vintage jewelry and accessories can be handed down and cherished through many generations, and are by large very durable compared to much of the inexpensive junk in today’s market. It is also an earth friendly choice to make! Styles inspired by the 20’s-60’s are very popular right now. Pearls are really in this year, and even a simple strand of antique pearls woven through the hair awakens a story of by-gone treasures and tradition. Choose a style that suits your face, hair, and style well. Consider the shape of your dress. And consider a look that can stand up to the architectural and complex designs of today's wedding dresses.

Le’ Boucle

This style was inspired by the timeless charm of boucle garments. Bending and looping with a soft, romantic, and vintage feel, this bride’s look is eye catching and timeless. The sterling silver leaves on this brooch add a contrasting detail that draws the eye.

Elongate

Perfect for brides who wish to appear taller, this style is full, formal, very fun, and summery. Matching earrings and Brooch are used  for accents to finish the look and give it some charm.

Profond

The color adds rich drama to this style. Details can be seen because of the shape and definition, and was constructed with attention to the way that light would play on the curls. This style is loose and free-spirited, but has a glamorous touch. The accent piece is a pin that inspired the shape of the tumbling curls.

Midsummer’s french roll

A sexy, exaggerated version of a classic shape. This season is about drama, and this style pulls you in with it as if being invited into a romantic, intimate dance. Sensual wisps flirt with the cheeks, and this antique, well used accent piece helps it all come together for a crisp finish.
